Revisiting the International Mobility of Young and Emerging Arts Workers | April 2025
The fourth Cultural Mobility Forum by On the Move took place on 29 and 30 April 2025 in Riga (Latvia) and online. Co-hosted by Northern Dimension Partnership on Culture (NDPC) and in partnership with Riga Cirks and HowlRound, the forum was titled “Revisiting the International Mobility of Young and Emerging Arts Workers.”
The panel discussions focused on the future prospects of young artists and emerging artists: In 2025, in the face of profound uncertainties, who is willing to pursue an artistic career? How willing are they to pursue an international path? Experiences and observations were shared and perspectives were presented on how international mobility, sustainability, inclusion, etc. can be rethought for a resilient arts and culture sector. In addition to the inputs, there was plenty of room for joint exchange and discussions with cultural actors in Riga, who were visited at their places of work.
The 2025 On the Move general meeting took place in Riga during these days and the OTM working groups—Mobility Information Points and (En)forced Mobility—came together here for intensive discussions and networking in full-day meetings.
